Teaching
I work as full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana (UL FCCT), Chair of Biochemistry.
Lecturing
Since 2015, I have been teaching the complete mandatory subject of Biochemical Informatics of the 2nd year of the BSc study of Biochemistry. The topics include biochemical and biological databases, sequence alignments, basics of molecular phylogeny, structural bioinformatics, graph theory and others. For the practicals at this subject, I’ve also created a website Biokemijska informatika (in Slovene) featuring exercises, which will be further supplemented in the following study years.
In the study year 2021/2022 I started to teach the following subjects:
- Fundamentals of Biochemistry
- Practical Biochemistry
- Biomacromolecules in Industry and Medicine, an elective subject representing a synthesis of biochemical and molecular biology theory and practice
I’m also involved in teaching at two doctoral study programmes:
- Chemical Sciences at UL FCCT, subject Selected Topics in Biochemistry
- Biomedicine at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine, subject Principles and Techniques in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Practicals
Since the start of my work at UL FCCT, I’ve been involved in conducting practicals at several subjects:
- BSc level (both pre-Bologna and Bologna programme):
- Practical Course in Biochemistry
- Biochemical Informatics
- Structure of Proteins
- Enzymology
- Molecular Fundamentals of Life Sciences
- Biological Chemistry
- Applied Enzymology
- Molecular Immunology
- General Chemistry
- MSc level:
- Methods for Determining 3D Macromolecular Structure for which I wrote a textbook entitled Macromolecular Crystallography (in Slovene)
- Modern and Complementary Approaches in Structural Biology
- Biochemistry of Cancer
- Selected Topics from Biomedical Chemistry
- Biological Membranes
Mentoring
Mentoring is an integral and very important part of pedagogical work. Since 2015, I have been a mentor to 13 students during their BSc theses, to 7 masters’ students, and 3 doctoral students (some still in the study process).
